2025 - An Easter We'll Never Forget

This beautiful cross marked the final spot on the kids scavenger hunt

I love Easter on the island! The weather is what we always dream it will be at home (but never is), and the quieter and slower way of life really allowed me to journey through Lent in a more focused and intentional way than I can remember doing in a very long time. The church we attend here, St. Paul in Governor’s Harbour, is teeny tiny, but I love everything about it. There’s an amazing mural on the wall behind the altar, a welcoming congregation and stunning view of the water - what’s not to love? We began the week with Palm Sunday mass where we walked in a parade around the church. Let’s just say, the palms here are a tad fresher than back home . . . some were actual palm tree branches! One little boy happened to grab a branch that was bigger than him; it was adorable watching him try to manage it for the entire hour long mass. At the end of mass, Father requested a group consensus on what time the rest of the masses for the week should be - I guess that’s one way to guarantee people show up!

My favorite view out the church window

On Holy Saturday the kids participated in their first sailing regatta. They both did really well, especially given the intense wind and their lack of experience. It has been so rewarding watching them both try new things, even when they’re uncomfortable. I remind them constantly, it’s in the discomfort that you find growth.

We (being Luci and Thomas) were a little concerned the bunny wouldn’t find us over 1,000 miles from home, but lo and behold, he did!

Searching for their baskets

After celebrating mass, we joined up with friends and had the most wonderful Easter meal and celebration, followed by an epic beach scavenger hunt which consisted of the kids climbing coral rock and trailblazing through the bush, to swimming out in the water to find a clue in a buried box and finally walking 3/4 of a mile down the beach (after sundown) to the ultimate buried treasure.

Let the hunt begin!

Using the metal detector to find the buried treasure

As a parent, I often think about which childhood moments our kids will remember for the rest of their lives, and I’m pretty confident, this Easter will be one of them.
